The Recording Process

Online session drummer Will Jones sat behind his drum kit, smiling at the camera.

Recording online is not the same as if we were recording in the same room. Depending on your time zone, we might not even be on the same day!

Below is the order of play by which the process of online recording runs, to facilitate some top-quality live drum tracks landing in your inbox!

All aspects of the process and any initial queries you may have are discussed in detail in my FAQ.

1) Get in touch

  • Start out by getting in touch via the contact page or directly via email.

  • Please provide some basic background to your project and what you’re looking for from the drums.

  • Please inform me of the format that you wish for the final drum track to be delivered in (eg. unmixed multitrack).

2) Send your files

  • If you choose to email me directly, feel free to attach your demo(s) to your mail as MP3 attachments.

  • If you would like to send WAVs, you can use a service such as WeTransfer if you wish, addressing to drumtracksdirect@gmail.com.

  • After I have received your files, I will familiarise myself with the song(s) and your ideas.

3) Discuss

  • I will reply to your email and confirm what I intend to play on the first take. I may request some further clarification about the drum parts.

  • I will give you a price and an estimated turnaround time.

4) Record

  • I record the first take of the drum track and return it to you via email for your feedback.

  • I will email the drum track to you as an MP3, bounced together with your demo.

  • This is, in essence, the “free demo” phase.

5) Any changes?

  • We discuss corrections to the drum track which you feel may be required – if any!

  • Generally tracks are completed on the first take or after a small number of corrections.

6) Payment and delivery

  • Upon receipt of full payment via bank transfer or PayPal, the final drum track(s) will be delivered in the format you specified before the recording process began.

  • I will email the drum track files to you as a zip, accessible via a link placed into an email.
